Ireland Stuns India in a Historic First Cricket Win as Sooryavanshi Sits Out
On Friday, Ireland defeated India for the first time in men's international cricket, winning by 34 runs at Stormont. Ireland posted 182-9 while India finished all out for 148.
Ireland recovered from 51-4 to reach 182, led by skipper Lorcan Tucker's 50 runs. India rested 15-year-old debutant Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, retaining the T20 World Cup-winning lineup from March.
Irish debutants Matt Hollard and Jai Moondra claimed five wickets collectively, with Matthew Humphreys adding 3-28. India's batters struggled, with nobody scoring more than Shivam Dube's 25 runs.
India captain Shreyas Iyer said the team would "come out all guns blazing" next game. Ireland captain Lorcan Tucker called the victory "pretty special," noting they "scrapped through the game."
The two teams will clash again on Sunday at Civil Service Cricket Club before India departs for a five-game series in England. This final T20 match concludes their bilateral series.
