- On the black market, the Iranian currency traded at more than 2.2 million rials per United States dollar on Sept 6, as Tehran faces a naval blockade. The blockade aims to reduce oil exports to zero.
- Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent recently outlined plans for the "economic asphyxiation" of Iran, a strategy building on sanctions enforced since President Donald Trump withdrew from the nuclear agreement in 2018.
