- From December 2022 through May 2024, Tafakori allegedly coordinated a logistics network spanning South and Central America, charging migrants fees as high as $30,000 for shelter and transportation before directing them to cross the U.S. border illegally.
- Prosecutors charged Tafakori with one count of conspiracy and five counts of bringing an alien into the U.S. for financial gain, with each count carrying a maximum 10-year prison sentence.
- The arrest resulted from a multi-agency effort involving Homeland Security Investigations and the Joint Task Force Alpha; Assistant Attorney General A. Tysen Duva stated that when extradited, "Tafakori will face justice in the United States."
