Iran executes two members of opposition group for attacking infrastructure
- On Sunday , the judiciary's Mizan Online website reported that Iran executed two men, Mehdi Hassani and Behrouz Ehsani-Eslamloo, after their death sentences were upheld by the Supreme Court.
- Known in English as the People's Mujahedin Organisation of Iran, the group staged 1970s bombings and is now based in Albania, claims a clandestine network inside Iran.
- Authorities reported they, at a covert house in Tehran, manufactured homemade launchers and mortars to target residential areas, service centers, and charities, charged with moharebeh and conspiracy against national security.
- On January 26, 2025, they were transferred from Evin Prison to Ghezel Hesar Prison, and their third and second retrial requests were denied earlier this year, with executions carried out by hanging at dawn.
- By comparison, Iran ranks second in enforcing capital punishment, according to human rights groups including Amnesty International, just behind China, the world's leading executioner.

Iran Executes Two Members of Mujahideen-e-Khalq Group
Iran executed two members of the banned Mujahideen-e-Khalq group for attacking civilian infrastructure with homemade projectiles, the judiciary news outlet Mizan said on Sunday. Mehdi Hassani and Behrouz Ehsani-Eslamloo, identified as "operational elements" of the MEK, were sentenced to death in September 2024 - a verdict upheld by the Supreme Court, which denied their request for a retrial, Mizan said.
Executions once again shake Iran. Two men are executed for alleged attacks for the opposition group "People's Mujahedin". The death sentence against the two had already been passed last year.
