Alireza Tangsiri, a veteran commander sanctioned by the US, was killed in an Israeli strike targeting Iran's naval operations linked to the Strait of Hormuz.
- On Monday, Iran confirmed that Rear Admiral Alireza Tangsiri, commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps navy, died from injuries sustained in an Israeli air strike.
- Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz announced on Sunday that Israel killed Tangsiri in an overnight air strike, describing him as the "man who was directly responsible for the terrorist operation of mining and blocking the Strait of Hormuz."
- Sepah News, the official outlet of the IRGC, reported that Tangsiri "succumbed to severe injuries" while organizing coastal defenses, and the IRGC stressed his absence has not disrupted naval operations or control of the Strait of Hormuz.
- Appointed by Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei in 2018, Tangsiri was a veteran of the 1980–1988 Iran-Iraq war and was sanctioned by the United States in 2019 for his leadership in naval actions.
- The IRGC vowed "that we will not rest until the enemy is completely destroyed," signaling continued commitment despite Tangsiri's death and ongoing volatility in the Strait of Hormuz.
