TEHRAN PROVINCE, IRAN, JUL 25 – Iranian and European diplomats held detailed talks on uranium enrichment and sanctions relief amid threats to reinstate UN sanctions by August, as Iran enriches uranium near weapons-grade levels.
- On July 25, Iranian diplomats held frank and detailed nuclear talks in Istanbul with Germany, Britain and France, who threatened to trigger sanctions if Iran fails to agree, said Iranian diplomats.
- Since June, Tehran had pulled away from the UN watchdog, after Israel’s attack sparked a 12-day war, impacting nuclear negotiations.
- Lasting over three hours, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi and Majid Takht-Ravanchi engaged in serious, frank and detailed discussions on sanctions lifting and the nuclear issue.
- Gharibabadi warned, 'triggering sanctions would be completely illegal,' amid threats from European powers to activate the snapback mechanism under the moribund 2015 deal before August.
- Iran said future cooperation would take a `new form`, and in the coming weeks, a technical team is expected to return, according to Iranian officials.
