Iowa Men's Basketball Will Play Nate Oats' Alabama Squad in Des Moines
The Hawkeyes will face the SEC powerhouse in a two-game series, with the first meeting set for a neutral-site game in Des Moines.
The Iowa Hawkeyes will host the Alabama Crimson Tide on Dec. 21, 2026, at Casey's Center in Des Moines, marking the first of a two-game series with a return trip to Mobile, Alabama, scheduled for the 2027-28 season.
Expanding the 2026-27 non-conference slate, the Hawkeyes have scheduled games against the Creighton Bluejays in Des Moines and road games at Xavier, alongside a Dec. 10 home game against the Iowa State Cyclones.
"These neutral site games create a unique opportunity to play marquee opponents while bringing Hawkeye basketball directly to our fans across Iowa," head coach Ben McCollum said, noting the program's aim for sustained success.
Tickets for the Des Moines showdown go on sale July 1; the teams previously split a 1-1 series record in the U.S. Virgin Islands, with Alabama winning 72-60 in 2006 and Iowa winning 55-47 in 2010.
Under head coach Nate Oats, the Crimson Tide has advanced to at least the Sweet 16 in each of the last four seasons, including a 2024 Final Four appearance and an Elite Eight run in 2025.
