Nebraska, Iowa Lawmakers React to Passing of South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham
The South Carolina senator was 71 and had met with President Volodymyr Zelensky in Ukraine a day before his death.
South Carolina Republican Senator Lindsey Graham died Saturday, July 11, 2026, at age 71 following a brief and sudden illness, his office confirmed.
A veteran of the United States Air Force, Graham served in Congress for three decades, including four terms in the Senate, focusing on foreign policy and national defense.
Senator Martin Heinrich recalled that while they often disagreed, Graham was "always willing to sit down, hear me out, and work across the aisle." Colleagues from both parties praised his dedication to service.
The Coalition for Jewish Values, representing more than 2,500 traditional Orthodox rabbis, mourned Graham's passing and highlighted his "moral clarity and courage" defending Israel and religious liberty.
South Carolina's governor will appoint a replacement to serve until January. Colleagues reflected on Graham's legacy as a "true American patriot" who dedicated his life to advancing America's interests.
