iOS 27 Could Give Your iPhone a Custom Camera App and a ChatGPT-Like Siri, Finally
Bloomberg says the redesign will let users place camera controls in any order and add a Siri mode with Visual Intelligence features.
Apple plans to make the Camera app fully customizable in iOS 27, allowing users to select and arrange their own control widgets. The company will preview the software at the Worldwide Developers Conference starting June 8.
Casual users appreciate the clean design, but power users often find essential tools buried behind menus. Apple aims to move away from a 'one-size-fits-all' approach by letting owners personalize layouts for different capture modes.
Through a transparent 'Add Widgets' tray sliding up from the bottom, users can select controls like exposure and depth-of-field. Apple organizes these mini controls into 'basic,' 'manual,' and 'settings' categories.
A new Siri camera mode will debut alongside standard photo and video options. This feature incorporates Visual Intelligence, enabling users to translate text or identify objects through the lens.
Beyond the camera, iOS 27 brings system-wide interface updates including a redesigned Safari start page and unified search tabs in apps like Music and News. Apple is reverting to a navigation style combining search with other controls.
