The reduction in food VAT this spring had a full impact in the form of lower food prices, according to a first interim report from the Swedish Consumer Agency and the Swedish Economic Research Institute. When VAT was halved, food prices fell by 5.5 per cent which is on par with what the lower VAT means, the accounts now handed to the government show.
