Intuitive Machines to Acquire Goonhilly Earth Station and COMSAT
The deal adds 44 antennas and deep-space ground stations to support more lunar missions and European Space Agency opportunities, Intuitive Machines said.
On May 14, Intuitive Machines announced an agreement to acquire Goonhilly Earth Station Ltd. and its American subsidiary, COMSAT, for $49.6 million, split equally between cash and stock.
Chief Executive Steve Altemus said the acquisition allows the company to "set them up as the leader of our global ground segment," strengthening deep-space communications for future lunar missions.
The deal adds Goonhilly's 44 antennas in Cornwall, England, and COMSAT's teleports in Connecticut and California to Intuitive's network, providing about $14 million in estimated annual revenue.
Expected to close in the third quarter pending regulatory approvals, the acquisition enables Intuitive to pursue European Space Agency contracts while maintaining Goonhilly's Cornish operations and customer commitments.
This expansion supports NASA's lunar lander initiatives and Intuitive's plans to repurpose Gateway hardware for the SR-1 Freedom mission, scaling infrastructure for deep-space exploration and future Moon bases.
