Intuitive Machines to Acquire Goonhilly Earth Station and COMSAT

The deal adds 44 antennas and deep-space ground stations to support more lunar missions and European Space Agency opportunities, Intuitive Machines said.

  • On May 14, Intuitive Machines announced an agreement to acquire Goonhilly Earth Station Ltd. and its American subsidiary, COMSAT, for $49.6 million, split equally between cash and stock.
  • Chief Executive Steve Altemus said the acquisition allows the company to "set them up as the leader of our global ground segment," strengthening deep-space communications for future lunar missions.
  • The deal adds Goonhilly's 44 antennas in Cornwall, England, and COMSAT's teleports in Connecticut and California to Intuitive's network, providing about $14 million in estimated annual revenue.
  • Expected to close in the third quarter pending regulatory approvals, the acquisition enables Intuitive to pursue European Space Agency contracts while maintaining Goonhilly's Cornish operations and customer commitments.
  • This expansion supports NASA's lunar lander initiatives and Intuitive's plans to repurpose Gateway hardware for the SR-1 Freedom mission, scaling infrastructure for deep-space exploration and future Moon bases.
