Introducing Claude Opus 5 Anthropic

Anthropic says Claude Opus 5 matches stronger models at half the price and adds faster responses, automatic fallback routing and tool-swapping support.

  • On Friday, Anthropic unveiled Claude Opus 5, priced at $5 per million input tokens and $25 per million output tokens, matching its predecessor Opus 4.8's rates.
  • Claude Opus 5 replaces Opus 4.8 as the default on Claude Max, Anthropic's top consumer subscription, while the company still recommends Claude Fable 5 for the longest autonomous tasks.
  • On Frontier-Bench v0.1, Opus 5 scored 43.3%, while in OSS-Fuzz tests the model found vulnerabilities 79.4% of the time, nearly matching Mythos 5's 80% result.
  • Zapier chief executive Wade Foster reported the model completed a complex churn-prevention workflow on AutomationBench, while new features include a Fast mode running at about 2.5 times standard speed.
  • The launch follows the U.S. government lifting export controls on Fable 5 and Mythos 5 earlier this month, and Anthropic reported Opus 5's safety classifiers are expected to intervene roughly 85% less often than those on Fable 5.
