The United Nations warned, this afternoon, on the International Day of the Red Cross, that at least 1,000 million tons of food are wasted and that the world generates up to 2,300 million tons of solid waste per year. "As hundreds of millions are hungry, more than a billion tons of food are lost, 19% of the supply for consumers, while 13% are lost in the post-collet phase," the United Nations Environment Programme (UNMEA) said in a communiqué.
