Intel Posts Fastest Revenue Growth In 15 Years On AI Chip Demand
The company’s Data Center and AI segment rose 59% as adjusted earnings topped estimates and Intel lifted capital spending plans to more than $20 billion.
- On July 23, Intel Corporation reported $16.1 billion in second-quarter revenue, a 25% year-over-year increase that beat guidance by $1.8 billion as surging AI-related demand for data center chips drove results well above Wall Street expectations.
- CEO Lip-Bu Tan credited artificial intelligence for the result, as the Data Center and AI segment revenue climbed 59% to $6.3 billion, with Tan stating "AI is driving unprecedented demand for compute."
- Adjusted earnings per share reached $0.42, more than double the $0.21 consensus estimate, while adjusted gross margin climbed to 41.8%, reflecting a 280 basis-point improvement above guidance.
- Management raised 2026 capital expenditure guidance to more than $20 billion, up from $18 billion, to fund tooling for advanced manufacturing processes including Intel 3, 18A, and 14A.
- Intel plans to begin trial runs for its next-generation 14A node in the second half of 2027, targeting high-volume manufacturing by 2028, with CEO Tan noting "increasing momentum" for the technology from customers.
