Insider's best time to shop at Tesco, Lidl, Aldi, Asda and Morrisons for huge savings
HotUKDeals says the biggest markdowns often appear after 7pm, while shoppers can save more by checking unit prices and avoiding impulse buys.
Hotukdeals identified specific times for finding reduced-price food at major supermarkets, with Tesco offering final reductions after 8pm and Morrisons marking down items around 6pm to 7pm.
Supermarkets use psychological tactics like strategic shelf placement and fresh bread aromas to encourage higher spending, according to Ben Smye, consumer expert at Hotukdeals.
Ben recommends ignoring headline prices in favor of checking the price per 100g, while urging shoppers to always bring a list and treat every "special offer" as something to verify rather than trust.
While comparing prices can save around £100 a month, Ben warns that "driving to three shops to save a pound or two on a handful of items isn't worth anyone's time, and you can wipe out the saving in fuel and a few impulse buys along the way."
Shoppers should look beyond eye-level displays to find cheaper own-brand alternatives on lower shelves, while staying aware of shrinkflation tactics where products become smaller while prices stay the same or increase.
