Inside Trump's remake of the White House Rose Garden. First a stone patio, then statues
The additions include a 14-foot bronze sculpture and gifts or loans from donors as Trump expands White House renovations, officials said.
President Donald Trump added bronze statues of America's founders to the White House Rose Garden, including depictions of George Washington, Alexander Hamilton, Ben Franklin, and Thomas Jefferson.
Trump installed the statues after replacing the Rose Garden's lawn with a white stone patio, mirroring the aesthetic of his private Mar-a-Lago club in Palm Beach, Florida.
Sculptor George Lundeen donated the Jefferson piece, while anonymous donors provided the Franklin and Hamilton statues; a 14-foot-tall sculpture called "Freedom's Charge" was relocated from Dallas.
White House spokesperson Davis Ingle defended the additions, saying Trump continues to make "long-overdue and necessary" renovations to ensure the White House is "properly glorified."
These installations align with Trump's broader plan for a National Garden of American Heroes near the National Mall, which would feature sculptures of 250 Americans who made significant historical contributions.
