Rock Band Announces First New Album in 30 Years, with New Lead Singer
Jakob Nowell joins original band members for Sublime’s first album since 1996, featuring the 2023 single “Ensenada” and continuing the band’s legacy.
- Sublime announced their first new album in 30 years, "Until The Sun Explodes," arriving June 12 via Atlantic Records. The record features singer Jakob Nowell alongside original members bassist Eric Wilson and drummer Bud Gaugh.
- Original frontman Bradley Nowell died in 1996, two months before the band's self-titled album. Now his son Jakob Nowell fronts the group, marking a significant transition after a 30-year recording hiatus.
- Recorded in a San Pedro-area studio, the album features guests including FIDLAR's Zac Carper and Pennywise guitarist Fletcher Dragge. Jakob presented arrangements that Wilson and Gaugh infused with their distinct "love and flavor."
- Jakob Nowell described the project as an "epilogue" to the band's history. "It is a tribute to the expansive works of Sublime," he said, emphasizing the album acknowledges his father's legacy.
- Touring plans include a multi-night stand at Red Rocks next month. The band will also perform in the UK for the first time at Slam Dunk Festival across the late May Bank Holiday weekend.
