Nova Scotian children under 14 will soon be banned from e-bikes
The measure would allow e-bikes and e-scooters on higher-speed roads only in signed or designated lanes and bar riders under 16 from e-scooters.
- State Rep. Joe McAndrew plans to introduce legislation in Pennsylvania restricting e-bikes on high-speed roads and prohibiting anyone younger than 16 from operating e-scooters on state roads.
- McAndrew said the speed difference between electric devices and motor vehicles creates safety concerns on busy, high-speed roadways. "We cannot afford to let significant injuries and fatalities related to these vehicles grow without putting in common-sense regulations," he said.
- Separately, the City of Worthington is considering a new ordinance for the City Charter to regulate e-bikes, mandating "Safe Operation" with warnings against reckless riding that endangers persons or property.
- Across the border in Canada, Nova Scotia Public Works Minister Fred Tilley plans to ban children under 14 from riding e-bikes this fall, noting that evolving technology allows these conveyances to move much faster than before.
