It only needs to hitch a ride in someone's car on the way home from vacation. According to Michal Hnízdil from the Central Inspection and Testing Institute of Agriculture (ÚKZÚZ), this is how easily the Japanese leaf beetle can enter Czech territory. This would endanger over 300 plant species, including grapevines, fruit trees, forest trees and field crops. Authorities in the Hodonín area tested their preparedness for this situation this week.
