Indonesia's government is racing to capture the last-known Bornean rhino in the wild in a bid to preserve the species through in vitro fertilization, a government official told AFP on Friday.
Animal protectors want to save the Borneo rhinoceros from extinction. In addition, the female Pari is to be fertilized with sperm of the likewise threatened Sumatra rhinoceros.
The Indonesian authorities are trying to capture the last known rhinoceros of Borneo living in a wild state. The objective: to collect its eggs in order to launch an in vitro fertilization program that could prevent the permanent disappearance of this subspecies in critical danger of extinction.
