Indonesia Suspends Five Cibinong Prison Officials After Ombudsman Finds Luxury Housing
The ministry opened an internal probe and questioned 52 inmates after the Ombudsman found alleged luxury facilities near the prison.
- On Saturday, September 26, the Imipas Ministry suspended Wisnu Hani Putranto, Head of the Cibinong Class IIA Correctional Facility, and four subordinates following Indonesian Ombudsman findings of luxury housing units near the prison.
- During a surprise inspection on Wednesday, September 23, the Ombudsman discovered a housing complex with about ten residential units approximately 300 meters from the main prison building in Cibinong.
- The Ministry team questioned 52 inmates to gain a comprehensive overview of facility usage, despite initial obstruction by prison staff during the inspection who refused access to inmate quarters.
- Inspector General Commissioner General Rudi Setiawan noted discrepancies between current conditions and previous documentation, identifying items visible in earlier records that were missing during the recent sweep.
- According to directives from Minister of Immigration and Correctional Affairs Agus Andrianto, potential sanctions for violations of civil servant disciplinary rules will be imposed if the investigation confirms misconduct.
