INDIA, JUL 22 – India saw a 206% rise in cyber fraud losses to Rs 22,845 crore in 2024 despite government efforts including over 10,500 arrests and blocking 9.42 lakh SIM cards, officials said.
- Tuesday, the Ministry of Home Affairs informed the Lok Sabha that citizens lost over Rs 22,845 crore to cyber fraud, marking a 206% rise from the previous year.
- Incident reports rose from 15,96,493 in 2023 to 22,68,346 in 2024, reflecting a rise in cybercrime cases in India, as per official data.
- Through targeted measures, the government disabled key fraud channels, saving over Rs 5,489 crore and blocking 9.42 lakh SIM cards and 2,63,348 IMEIs, Bandi Sanjay Kumar said.
- The Bandi Sanjay Kumar, Minister of State for Home Affairs, said the Pratibimb module launched to map criminals and infrastructure aided 10,599 arrests, 26,096 linkages and 63,019 assistance requests.
- The Suspect Registry launched on September 10, 2024 by I4C has gathered over 11 lakh identifiers and flagged 24 lakh mule accounts, preventing an estimated Rs 4,631 crore in fraud.

Cybercrime cases in India jump over 140 pc from 2018 to 2022
