INDIANA, JUL 16 – Math proficiency among Indiana students grades 3-8 rose 5.2 points since 2021, while English/language arts scores remained mostly unchanged, prompting continued literacy focus.
- On Wednesday morning, Indiana Department of Education released the 2025 ILEARN results, showing math proficiency increases and flat English/language arts scores.
- Amid calls for actionable data, the redesigned ILEARN began in January 2022, piloting a through-year model in 1,350 schools to provide real-time insights.
- A total of 31.2% of students passed both the math and English/language arts sections shows statewide proficiency outcomes: English/language arts at 40.6%, math at 42.1% up 5.2 points since 2021, with 31.2% passing both.
- Indiana Secretary of Education Katie Jenner said `While we are positively moving and improving in math, there is an urgent need to support middle school students in English/Language Arts`, and state leaders said `the goal is to provide real-time data and allow earlier intervention`.
- Next year, Indiana will launch a redesigned ILEARN assessment featuring three checkpoint tests and a shortened summative assessment, as officials said the new model will provide real-time data for earlier interventions.
