Indian-origin fraudster arrested: FBI Director Kash Patel
The FBI says Bedi allegedly stole at least $6 lakh in benefits by swapping EBT cards for cash and keeping half the proceeds.
- FBI Director Kash Patel announced Sunday that Manjit Singh Bedi was arrested in India, facing charges for defrauding the United States government of at least $6 lakh through a Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Programme scheme.
- Operating a small grocery store in Tacoma, Washington, Bedi allegedly swiped customers' Electronic Benefit Transfer cards to provide cash instead of food. The FBI claimed he kept half the proceeds between March 2024 and June 2025.
- After being indicted for wire fraud and SNAP benefits fraud, Bedi fled to Canada before reaching India, where he was recently arrested. The United States had placed a $1.5 lakh bounty on him.
- This is the 5th Most Wanted Fraudster captured in three months, according to Patel. Subjects caught so far are responsible for a combined over USD 2 billion in fraud and nearly 4,000 days on the run.
- The FBI is actively working to secure Bedi's return to the United States. A federal arrest warrant was issued on May 21 in a United States district court for Violations of Conditions of Supervision.
