Indian Navy to Commission Three Indigenous Warships in Kolkata
The vessels were built with more than 75% indigenous content and involved over 200 MSMEs, the Defence Ministry said.
On Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will commission three indigenously built frontline naval platforms—Dunagiri, Sanshodhak, and Agray—at Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port in Kolkata, marking a significant boost to India's maritime capabilities.
Designed by the Warship Design Bureau and constructed by Garden Reach Shipbuilders, the vessels feature over 75% indigenous content and involved participation from over 200 MSMEs, generating significant employment opportunities.
The lineup includes Dunagiri, a stealth frigate equipped with BrahMos missiles and Medium Range Surface-to-Air Missile systems; Sanshodhak, a survey vessel deploying AUVs and ROVs for mapping; and Agray, an Arnala-class anti-submarine warfare platform.
Their induction supports the Indian Navy's balanced force development strategy, aiming to enhance blue-water operations, maritime domain awareness, and coastal security, the Ministry of Defence stated Friday.
The Prime Minister's Office noted these platforms will significantly bolster national operational capabilities and strengthen coastal security, reflecting collective efforts of the Government and industry partners.
