INDIAN OCEAN REGION, JUL 21 – The 44th India-Indonesia Coordinated Patrol focused on preventing illegal activities and strengthening bilateral maritime security under India's MAHASAGAR vision, ongoing since 2002.

  • On July 22, 2025, the Indian Coast Guard conducted the keel-laying event for the initial vessel in a series of six advanced Offshore Patrol Vessels at Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Ltd in Mumbai.
  • The ceremony followed a December 20, 2023 contract signing under the Buy category to indigenously design and build these technologically advanced vessels.
  • These 117-meter-long vessels incorporate AI-based predictive maintenance, Remote Piloted Drones, Integrated Bridge and Platform Management Systems for enhanced autonomous monitoring.
  • Each vessel has a displacement of about 2,700 tons, a maximum speed of 23 knots, a 5,000-nautical mile range, and accommodates 11 officers and 110 personnel.
  • The NGOPVs will strengthen India's coastal surveillance and multi-mission operational capabilities while supporting domestic shipbuilding and defense innovation goals.
