India Unveils National IED Data Management System to Strengthen Security
The National IED Data Management System integrates data from 800 users across agencies to enhance forensic analysis and counter-terror investigations with AI and real-time tools.
- On Friday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah launched the National IED Data Management System, a national platform developed by the NSG National Bomb Data Centre and housed at the NSG garrison in Manesar.
- MHA officials say the Ministry of Home Affairs generated varied datasets in past years that remained isolated, prompting a central repository for IED incidents to aid the NIA, ATS, and state police forces.
- The platform uses AI and machine-learning tools, built with support from Rashtriya Raksha University, IIT Delhi, the National Investigation Agency, and Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre, while NSG says it standardises data formats to cut duplication and serves around 800 users.
- Officials say NIDMS will identify 'signature linkages' across incidents and act as a 'shield' to strengthen forensic evidence, speed prosecution, and improve inter-agency coordination.
- The system builds on National Bomb Data Centre records since 1999, addressing thousands of IED deaths; officials called it 'unique' after consulting 26 friendly countries and plan future datasets and analytical tools.
