PM Modi’s Landmark Slovakia Visit Sees Ties Upgraded,11 MoUs Inked Across Sectors
The two countries signed agreements on defence, labour mobility, education and digital technology as they seek deeper trade and investment links.
On Monday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Bratislava, Slovakia, meeting Prime Minister Robert Fico to elevate bilateral ties to a "Comprehensive Partnership" during the first visit by an Indian prime minister since Slovakia's independence.
The two governments signed memoranda of understanding to deepen collaboration in defence technologies, digital innovation, and artificial intelligence, labelling defence and security cooperation as "one of the key pillars" of the relationship.
Expanding bilateral scope, officials agreed to promote student mobility in STEM fields and humanities, while committing to boost two-way trade across automotive, electronic, and advanced manufacturing sectors.
Leaders established a Joint Working Group on Terrorism and reaffirmed support for multilateralism, with Slovakia backing India's quest for a permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council and membership to the Nuclear Suppliers Group.
Prime Minister Fico lauded India's economic growth, welcoming the India-EU Free Trade Agreement, while Modi highlighted the "strong foundation" created by cultural proximity, including the translation of Indian Upanishads into the Slovak language.
