India Hits Record $860 Bn Exports in FY26, Powered by Services and March Surge
Services exports rose to $418.31 billion, helping total exports climb even as imports increased faster and widened India’s trade deficit, officials said.
- India recorded a record $860.09 billion in total exports during FY2025-26, marking a 4.22 per cent increase; however, imports grew faster at 6.47 per cent to reach approximately $970 billion, according to Commerce Secretary Rajesh Agrawal.
- The overall trade deficit widened to $119.30 billion in FY2025-26, up from $94.66 billion in FY25, reflecting imports outpacing export growth throughout the fiscal year.
- Services exports proved vital, while merchandise exports saw a modest 0.93 per cent rise to $441.78 billion, with strong performance in engineering goods and petroleum products providing a robust finish to the fiscal year.
- Excluding petroleum and gems and jewellery, the trade surplus narrowed by $3.74 billion, falling to $75.00 billion from $78.74 billion, reflecting structural shifts in India's trade profile as services take a more prominent role.
- Analysts say sustaining export momentum depends on global demand recovery and commodity price trends, with future growth relying on continued policy support aimed at diversifying export markets and boosting manufacturing competitiveness.
