India, EU to soon finish legal scrubbing of trade pact text: Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal

- On Monday, Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal said India and the 27-nation European Union are expected to finish the legal scrubbing of their trade pact text in another "week or two."
- Addressing the India-Spain Business Forum, Goyal noted that current bilateral trade between India and Spain stood at $9.2 billion in 2025-26, remaining below $10 billion potential.
- Goyal proposed increasing bilateral trade, investments, and tourism 10-fold over the next 10 years, urging stakeholders to "create a roadmap for the future."
- The European Union and India collectively represent about 30 per cent of the global economy, with about 300 Spanish companies operating in India and about 100 Indian firms present in Spain.
- India expects the India-EU FTA to become operational a few months after the India-UK trade agreement, which comes into force on Wednesday, July 15.
