India bloc parties likely to meet on September 30 to discuss EC related concerns: Report
The opposition plans marches, rallies and a Supreme Court challenge after reports that two election commissioners objected 14 times to SIR decisions.
- On Tuesday, Biju Janata Dal Rajya Sabha members joined the INDIA bloc's protest march toward the Election Commission in New Delhi, demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged electoral roll irregularities.
- The protest follows the Supreme Court's Monday clarification that it never approved modifications to Form 6, contradicting claims made by the Election Commission . The BJD alleges these revisions led to the deliberate deletion of more than 13 crore voters' names nationwide.
- BJD MPs Manas Mangaraj and Sulata Deo participated on instructions from BJD president Naveen Patnaik. Although the party remains outside the INDIA bloc, Mangaraj stated they joined to protect electoral integrity and defend regional interests.
- Police stopped the march near Nirvachan Sadan on Parliament Street, detaining several opposition leaders. Participants utilized the Supreme Court's recent proceedings to intensify their campaign against the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party .
- While the Bharatiya Janata Party criticized the BJD for abandoning its equidistance policy, BJD leaders maintain they are acting as a responsible regional party. This shift signals tactical realignment following recent election losses.
