'People are dying on the waitlist': Push for urgent support packages to age at home
The government is under pressure to fund at least 20,000 new at-home care packages for older Australians who need additional support, after the implementation of sweeping sector-wide aged care reforms were postponed.
Less than a month before the planned start of long-term home care, many municipalities are struggling with preparations. Both Idrija and Vrhnika initially planned for retirement homes to take over the new services, but are now looking for a concessionaire.
The elderly need community care
There is a call from Deputy Prime Minister Santia Bradshaw to integrate trained people into the landscape of health care treatment, towards looking after the elderly in communities. She made the plea during her contribution in the Lower House to the establishment of a palliative care facility in Coverley.
