Independent Macau media outlet says it will close by December
AAMacau cited rising pressures and revoked registration, with three journalists facing criminal charges as Macau's media environment rapidly deteriorates, advocacy group said.
- On Thursday, All About Macau Media said it will end operations in December and this month's print edition will be its last as it had no choice but to make this difficult decision.
- Facing mounting restrictions, Macau officials told AAMacau it `no longer meets the statutory requirements to engage in relevant activities` and revoked its registration, prompting closure, AAMacau said.
- Began in 2010 as a weekly feature, AAMacau launched its website about two years later and printed its first monthly magazine in May 2013, running digital and print platforms co-founded by Ng Sio Ngai, co-founder .
- AAMacau said three journalists could face criminal charges after two reporters were detained in recent years while covering the Macau legislature, escalating legal risks.
- Observers said the move `marks a swift deterioration` in Macau's media environment, the advocacy group told AFP, while local commentators called the shutdown `an absolute loss` for accountability.
