Domestic violence cases rise slightly in Finland in 2024
Reports of domestic violence in Finland increased by two percent in 2024, according to new data from Statistics Finland. Authorities recorded around 13,000 incidents involving approximately 12,500 victims. The majority of victims, about 74 percent, were adult women. Despite the overall increase, the number of underage victims declined. Reports of violence by parents against their children also fell compared to 2023.
Domestic violence on rise in Finland
There were 12,500 victims in the 13,000 domestic and intimate partner violence offences reported to the authorities in Finland in 2024, according to Statistics Finland. The number of victims is two per cent higher than in the previous year. Altogether 9,500 of the victims were adults, which is 3.7 per cent more than in the year before.
