In Yemen, the Houthis-led escalation against government forces has spilled over into neighbouring Saudi Arabia, targeted by Shiite rebels. The fighting has resulted in more than 500 deaths since Thursday, breaking out the cease-fire in effect since 2022. The Houthis objective: to control the Bab al-Mandeb Strait, a strategic crossing at the entrance to the Red Sea, while the Ormuz Strait is already blocked by their Iranian sponsor.
