At a plenary session on Thursday, the Senate of Uzbekistan approved a law amending the Criminal Code and the Code of Criminal Procedure to increase liability for illegal underground tunnels through the State border, and reported to the Press Service of the Upper House of Parliament.
The need to strengthen legislation was linked to the emergence of new forms of transnational crime
Uzbek senators have approved the introduction of separate criminal liability for the construction, use and financing of illegal tunnels across the state border. In 2016-2025, 12 such structures were identified, through which goods, currency and gold were illegally imported.
