In the garden: Now is the time to start transplants - Newton Kansan

Even if your doctor hasn’t told you to eat more greens for your health it’s still a great idea! Growing lettuce is a fun garden crop to plant because it grows fairly quick. Though lettuce is most often planted directly from seed in late March to early April, it can be started from transplants. Transplants allow lettuce to mature earlier so that it escapes the excessive heat that can lead to a strong flavor and bitterness.
