In last State of the State address, Evers calls on Legislature to keep working
- On Tuesday, Democratic Gov. Tony Evers used his eighth and final State of the State address at the Assembly chambers to urge the Legislature to stay in session, clocking in at over 61 minutes.
- With 10 months left in his term, Gov. Tony Evers put his remaining priorities on full display, mixing reflection with a forward-looking agenda and framing 2026 as the `Year of the Neighbor`.
- Among his requests, Evers pressed lawmakers to reach bipartisan agreement on K-12 schools and property tax relief, release $125 million for PFAS response, back the Office of Violence Prevention, and support a nonpartisan redistricting process.
- The Assembly plans to sprint to the finish line over the next 48 hours, while the state Senate plans to meet into March and lawmakers could vote as early as Thursday or as late as Friday.
- Across the aisle, Republicans said the governor's priorities paint a very different picture, with Majority Leader Sen. Devin LeMahieu, R-Oostburg, saying, `We want to give that money back to you,` while Sen. Julian Bradley, R-New Berlin, criticized Evers publicly during the speech.
