A girl! Good news for J-pod, as new orca calf is female

A new killer whale calf, J62, has been confirmed as female by the Centre for Whale Research, which is good news for the endangered J-pod population.
J62 was first seen on February 8 off San Juan Island, where her sex was confirmed through photographs of her belly.
Adult female J35, also known as Tahlequah, is no longer carrying the body of her dead calf, which she had pushed for 17 days in 2018.
