In Eritrea, the United Nations Calls for the Release of 10,000 Arbitrarily Detained Persons

In a statement issued on 15 December, the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights calls for the release of more than 10,000 detainees in Eritrea. The United Nations agency recalls that these prisoners were arbitrarily detained. At the beginning of the month, the Asmara authorities released 13 detainees who had spent almost 20 years in prison, without any form of trial.
