Tobacco retailers demand the freezing of tobacco taxes and the end of automatic indexing of cigarette prices on inflation every year. Gatherings are planned in six French cities throughout the week.
In an open letter to the ruralists, Marine Le Pen announced two flagship measures in their favour: the freezing of tobacco taxes and the unindexing of the price on inflation. These proposals took place on the eve of a national mobilization led by the Confederation of Ruralists, which called for a " moratorium" on increasing tobacco prices in order to avoid fuelling cigarette smuggling.
The Confederation of Buralists calls for a mobilization from 7 to 11 September. Tobacco retailers denounce an increase in prices that penalises them against clandestine channels. "It's a product that needs to be framed. We don't ask for a privilege, we only ask for the right to operate our monopoly," says Xavier Dupont, treasurer general of the Confederation of Buralists.
