Impairment Suspected in Parksville Crash
Witnesses reported erratic driving before the rollover, and police say alcohol impairment may have contributed to the crash that sent two people to hospital.
On Sunday, Sept. 6, a white Kia Forte veered off Highway 19 in Parksville near Exit 46 and overturned in a forested area at approximately 7:10 a.m., injuring both occupants.
Oceanside RCMP Sgt. Shane Worth reported that witnesses observed the vehicle being driven in "an erratic manner prior to the crash," prompting investigators to suspect alcohol impairment as a contributing factor.
Both occupants were transported to hospital following the rollover, with the male driver sustaining more serious injuries than the female passenger.
Authorities closed Highway 19 for several hours while a collision reconstruction expert processed the scene; no charges have been laid as the investigation continues.
Anyone who witnessed the incident or possesses dashcam footage is asked to contact the Oceanside RCMP at 248-6111, referencing file #2026-9535.
