Indian Star Bowler Ruled Out for Entire Big Bash League Season
Ravichandran Ashwin, the first capped Indian man set to play in the Big Bash League, will miss BBL|15 after knee surgery from an injury during training, Sydney Thunder said.
- Sydney Thunder announced on Tuesday that Ravichandran Ashwin has been ruled out of his BBL|15 debut season after undergoing knee surgery with no set recovery timeline.
 - While training in Chennai, Ashwin suffered a knee injury recently after committing to Sydney Thunder for their entire BBL season in September 2025 following his IPL retirement.
 - Ashwin's career totals include 537 Test wickets, 156 ODI wickets and 72 T20I wickets, and he would have been the first capped Indian man to play in the Big Bash League at age 39.
 - Trent Copeland, Sydney Thunder general manager, said everyone was devastated by Ashwin's injury; the club hopes to involve him non-playing and can sign a replacement from spin options like Chris Green and Tanveer Sangha.
 - The BBL|15 season runs from December 14 until January 25, which Ravichandran Ashwin will miss as his retirement earlier this year enabled overseas play, and he now focuses on recovery.
