Bears Inch Closer to Arlington Heights Stadium After Illinois House Megaprojects Vote

- On Wednesday, the Illinois House of Representatives passed a "megaprojects" bill in a 78-32 vote, advancing legislation aimed at keeping the Chicago Bears in Illinois by enabling negotiated property tax payments.
- Under the amended plan, 50% of payment-in-lieu-of-taxes receipts are allocated to property tax relief, with 60% of that amount going to homeowner rebates and 40% to the state's existing fund.
- Despite the House vote, the Bears stated the bill remains "not enough" to make the Arlington Heights site feasible, while Indiana continues incentivizing a potential move to Hammond, Indiana.
- Governor Pritzker's office expressed support for the measure as "an important step," though lead Senate sponsor State Sen. Bill Cunningham said legislators "feel no pressure to take a vote next week."
- The bill now moves to the Illinois Senate, which returns to Springfield on Tuesday, April 28, to begin debate expected to continue over the coming weeks.
