Ikea confirmed the closure of its small-format store in San Marcos, Texas, after only 14 months of operation, reaching the 5 premises closed in the United States and 13 globally in 2026.Despite a historic investment of $2.2 billion to expand in North America, 4 of the 5 closures on U.S. soil correspond to compact concepts and planning points that failed to adapt to local purchasing habits.
IKEA will close the store just 14 months after its launch. The company will not renew the lease and announces it will shift resources to other sales channels. Although the new format test failed in a large retail park, the chain is not completely abandoning the idea.
