IDF Soldier Killed, 2 Reservists Wounded in Hezbollah Drone Attack Near Lebanon Border
The IDF said two reservists were wounded and evacuated after the strike, which came amid continuing Hezbollah drone attacks in northern Israel.
- On Thursday, an explosive drone strike in Moshav Shomera killed Sgt. Rotem Yanai, 20, of Binyamina-Givat Ada, the Israel Defense Forces announced. Two reservists were also wounded in the attack.
- Yanai served as a welfare noncommissioned officer in the 435th Battalion of the Givati Brigade, making her the 24th Israeli fatality since Hezbollah began launching attacks as part of Operation Roaring Lion.
- Following the targeted killing of Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, Hezbollah renewed drone and rocket attacks on March 2, making Yanai the 12th soldier killed by Hezbollah since the ceasefire with Lebanon broke down on April 17.
- Defense Minister Israel Katz offered condolences and stated IDF soldiers continue to "courageously defend" the northern border, warning that Hezbollah "has paid, is paying, and will continue to pay a heavy price."
- Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu accused Hezbollah of "essentially disintegrating" the fragile truce extended earlier this month, emphasizing that Israel remains obligated to protect its soldiers and communities along the northern border.
