Nearly 60 Idahoans Sick After Drinking Raw Milk in Past Two Weeks
At least 45 people tested positive for campylobacteriosis as officials work to identify contaminated batches and test milk samples.
On Wednesday, The Idaho Department and DHW announced an investigation into two outbreaks associated with raw milk, with nearly 60 people reporting illness since May 19.
At least 45 individuals have tested positive for Campylobacter, a bacterial infection linked to raw milk that lacks pasteurization to eliminate bacteria such as Listeria and Salmonella.
The Department is collaborating with regional public health districts to identify contaminated milk samples, though spokesperson AJ McWhorter stated milking operations remain unnamed because raw milk consumption poses potential risks regardless of producer.
Health officials encourage anyone experiencing symptoms like Diarrhea, Stomach cramps, or fever after consuming raw milk to seek medical care promptly, as officials note that not everyone who became ill has been tested.
Residents should contact their local public health district to report potential illnesses, as the state agency continues to work with Southwest District Health and Central District Health on the ongoing investigation.
