Iconic BBC show renewed for new series 26 years after original with big star to host
Romesh Ranganathan will return as host as the celebrity quiz format continues and pre-production is underway ahead of filming this summer.
The BBC has reportedly commissioned a sixth series of The Weakest Link with Romesh Ranganathan returning as host, continuing the revival that launched in late 2021.
Originally hosted by Anne Robinson, the gameshow aired nearly 1,700 episodes between 2000 and 2012 before the revival format shifted to feature celebrity contestants competing for charity.
Celebrities including Johnny Vegas, Dermot, Gok Wan, and Stacey Dooley have participated in the revival, with special editions featuring stars from EastEnders and Gladiators.
Pre-Production for the upcoming sixth series is currently underway, with filming scheduled to take place this summer and all episodes available on BBC platforms.
The BBC also renewed Balamory for series 3 and 4 following its 2024 reboot, as executives at Lion Television Scotland and CBeebies said the show promotes kindness and togetherness.
