IAEA Ready to Help Define 'Concrete Steps' to Implement US-Iran Deal
Rafael Mariano Grossi said the agency will help turn the memorandum into concrete steps as negotiators have up to 60 days to seek a final deal.
On Wednesday, President Donald Trump and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian signed a memorandum of understanding to end the Middle East war, with the International Atomic Energy Agency ready to define "concrete steps" for implementation.
The war launched by the United States and Israel last year effectively shut down the Strait of Hormuz, prompting Tehran to agree to dilute 440 kilogrammes of uranium enriched to 60 percent.
Rafael Grossi, International Atomic Energy Agency Director General, noted this "very complex operation" requires detailed planning, as the agency's access to facilities is "not at a level and in all the locations it should be."
The memorandum provides a maximum of 60 days of negotiations to achieve a "final deal," while also requiring the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and easing sanctions on the Middle East nation.
Demanding the "immediate and permanent termination of military operations on all fronts," including Lebanon, the document outlines peace conditions, though Grossi said success depends "on the political will of both sides.
A sensitive issue is at the center of attention ahead of this weekend's expected meeting between the United States and Iran on a Swiss alpine peak. "A very complex task," the head of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) says ahead of the meeting.
