HENNEPIN COUNTY, MINNESOTA, AUG 1 – A total of 25 people were hospitalized after passengers unbuckled during unexpected severe turbulence on a flight from Salt Lake City to Amsterdam, Delta Airlines said.
- A Delta Airlines flight from Salt Lake City to Amsterdam experienced severe turbulence on Wednesday, forcing an emergency landing at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport where 25 people were hospitalized.
- Without warning, during meal service about an hour into the flight, turbulence lasted several minutes and tossed unbelted passengers around the cabin, passengers said.
- Passengers reported, `I watched a wine cart just get thrown into the air`, and flight attendants and loose items hit the ceiling and fell to the ground, making it very scary.
- Airport fire department and paramedics took 25 persons to hospitals after landing, and Delta arranged a special Thursday evening flight from St Paul International Airport to Amsterdam.
- The National Transportation Safety Board said, it is investigating and expects a preliminary report in about a month, while scientists warn injuries may become more common as climate change alters the jet stream.
